Tamil New Years day is Celebrated on mid- April in the first day of Tamil month Chitthirai. The Tamil New Year's Day is a time to celebrate for Tamilians all over the world. Tamilians believe that it was on the Tamil New Year's Day that Lord Brahma started the creation of the world.


Tamilians exchange greetings of "Puthandu Vazthukal", meaning Happy New Year on the auspicious occasion of Tamil New Year.
