DMK Rajya Sabha member Kanimozhi, who was released recently on bail from the Tihar jail in the 2G spectrum case, on Saturday 3-12-2011 reached Chennai to a rousing reception by family members and party cadres on Saturday. Her father and DMK chief M Karunanidhi was at the city airport to greet her, while family members, friends and hundreds of party men thronged the domestic arrival area hours before the flight was scheduled to land, triggering a near-stampede. The flight landed at 1.15pm and when a beaming Kanimozhi, draped in a blue silk sari, emerged half-an hour later, her father and husband Aravindan by her side, traditional drums and lusty sloganeering by cadres greeted her. At her CIT Colony residence, where artists and women cadres received her with folk songs and dance and the traditional ‘aarati’, Kanimozhi told reporters that she was happy to be back home. “I really feel happy coming back to Chennai. I am thankful to my people and the party for so much support. It’s like a balm seeing them all again after the pain I have gone in the past six months.” Outside their house gate, it was an intense and emotive welcome to Kanimozhi, amid bursting of crackers and performance by Tamil folk artistes. Just before Kanimozhi stepped into her house, women of the household performed “aarthi” with lamps and smeared vermillion on her forehead. Karunanidhi told media persons that his emotions were the same as that of a father who meets his daughter after six months. Besides her mother Rajathi Ammal, Karunanidhi’s wife Dayalu Ammal, half-brothers M K Tamilarasu and M K Stalin, half-sister Selvi, MPs, MLAs and senior district functionaries were present at the airport to receive her. Elder brother M K Alagiri was conspicuous by his absence, but his supporters were present. If we see the assets of the M.P’s more than fifty percent are crorepathis and having criminal back ground.
