DMDK leader and actor Vijayakanth on Sunday[27-2-2011] demanded that chief minister M Karunanidhi must resign to facilitate a fair investigation by the CBI into the 2G spectrum scam. In the event of Karunanidhi not resigning his post, Vijayakanth wanted the Centre to dismiss the state government. He noted that hesitation on the part of the Congress to act against the DMK would lead to people suspecting its involvement in the scam as well.


In a statement, Vijayakanth said the trail of spectrum money had led the investigators to the doorsteps of Kalaignar TV, owned by the chief minister’s family members.


Apart from the Rs 200-odd crore received by Kalaignar TV from DB Realty promoter Shahid Balwa, the channel had received money from a Singapore-based firm, which was another beneficiary in the spectrum allocation, Vijayakanth alleged.


The CBI investigation into the scam could get scuttled if Karunanidhi continued as chief minister, he said. The logic behind A Raja’s resignation as minister should be applicable to Karunanidhi as well, he noted.


A day after chief minister M Karunanidhi hinted that he would continue to take on administrative responsibilities if his DMK-led alliance returns to power after the assembly elections, his older son and Union minister MK Alagiri declared at a public function here on Sunday that his father would become the chief minister for the 6th time. “Kalaingar (Karunanidhi) will be elected chief minister not only for the sixth time, but even a seventh time,” Alagiri said.


He was speaking at the function organized to lay the foundation stone for the buildings of the Anna University of Technology.


On Sunday, participating in a function in Chennai, Karunanidhi had said, “In another six years, all huts across Tamil Nadu will be converted to concrete houses. If you are wondering if I will be around for another 6 years, let me tell you I will be there and the DMK regime will also be there,” Karunanidhi said.

The Central Bureau of Investigation and the Enforcement Directorate have estimated that former telecom minister A Raja could have got bribes to the tune of Rs 3,000 crore, and have put the loss to the exchequer from the underselling of spectrum at Rs 40,000-50,000 crore.


The two agencies have linked bribes Raja got to the order he passed on January 2008 to suddenly bring forward the cut-off date for applications for spectrum from the initial October 21, 2007, to September 25, 2007. The deadline switch eliminated many applications, enabling Raja to favour a select few with spectrum.


In the process, Raja became richer by approximately Rs 3,000 crore. These are initial estimates of Raja’s alleged new-found wealth as well as the loss to the exchequer and are not part of the progress report submitted by the CBI and the ED to the Supreme Court on Thursday. In their report to the court, the agencies said some telecom companies, who eventually got licences, had got drafts for licence fees ready even before the revised cut-off date of September 25, 2007, implying that they were aware of the minister’s plan to change the deadline.


The companies that have been accused of collusion with Raja include Swan, Unitech, Videocon, STel and Aircel. The new licencees got huge foreign investments. One of them brought in share capital worth 625 million Singapore dollars and in another case, $8 million came in via Dubai.


Top DMK leaders went into a huddle on Thursday 10-2-2011 , stunned by the CBI submission before the Supreme Court that former telecom minister A Raja had got Rs 3,000-crore kickbacks out of 2G spectrum allotment. Party sources told TOI that the DMK planned to arrange a team, led by a top defence lawyer, for Raja to control the possible damage in the run-up to the assembly polls this year.


On Tuesday 9-2-2011 the CBI arrested Shahid Balwa, a director of DB Etisalat. DB, or Dynamix Balwas, is a joint venture between the Balwa family and Vinod Goenka. Tax officials, during a raid on Cineyug Films, found a series of transfers from DB’s group companies such as DB Realty and DB Infrastructure Pvt Ltd to another group company, Dynamix Realty, to yet another group company, Kusegaon Fruits & Vegetables Pvt Ltd, to Cineyug, in which Kusegaon has a 49% stake, and finally to Kalaignar TV.


A Cineyug spokesperson responded in writing to say, “We, Cineyug Films, have given a loan amounting to Rs 200 cr to Kalaignar TV during the year 2008-09 and 2009-10. The entire loan amount has been received back along with interest. CBI states they are going to verify the genuineness of these transactions with Sarath Kumar who is one of the Directors of Kalaignar TV.

A day after chief minister M Karunanidhi sent a legal notice to Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy for alleging that he was a beneficiary in the 2G spectrum scam, Swamy went on the offensive by seeking permission from governor Surjit Singh Barnala to prosecute Karunanidhi for allegedly allotting land to a “favoured few” under the government’s discretionary quota (GDQ) in “violation” of rules.


Speaking to reporters on Monday 7-2-2011 after submitting his petition at the governor’s office (he could not meet Barnala), Swamy said, “He (Karunanidhi) has violated every rule and allotted land to a favoured few.”


Swamy claimed he had enough evidence to prove the charges and that he had sought permission from the governor to approach a special court to file criminal cases under the Prevention of Corruption Act against the CM and others.


AIADMK Chief Jayalalitha supported Swamy for including Karunanidhi in the 2g Spectrum scam.

In Tamilnadu everyday Karunanidhi announcing one freebies like free TV, Free Gas stove, and made the people of Tamilnadu to stand in the queue for begging for the same without concentrating their mind in their duty.


Since Tamilnadu elections are nearing stage, karunanidhi now planning to give five eggs in the noon meal scheme to the school children instead of one given previously. He has also announced suddenly free house scheme for three lakhs people by giving a receipt that the houses will be handed over next year if DMK party wins in the elections. These freebies are with an intention and the people are being made with a compulsion and binding to vote for DMK Government for getting free house in next year.


But Karunanidhi must think over before giving all those freebies, education and medical facilities should be made free for the poor, but that was not done so far.


By giving free TV the Party cable people are getting money for giving connections and like that the Gas agencies are getting money for giving connections. Karunanidhi also thinking to give free mobile phone so that he can get substantial amount from the Tele communication service which are giving connections to those phones.


The poor village people preparing liquor were fined and arrested but at the same time the Tamilnadu Government selling liquor thro’ its shops which earned Rs.90 crores during this Deepavali festival announcing this as their achievement. By taking liquor the innocent poor people are poisoned for their stomach.


If one day these freebies are stopped, what will happen? The people who are addicted to the freebies given by Government will involve themselves in looting, murder and attacking other people for snatching valuables from them. The Government duty is to give job for all and train them to work hard and earn money for their living without getting any freebies.

Jammu-Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is determined not to let BJP leaders hold a public meeting on Tuesday [25-1-2011] that is part of the party’s march to Srinagar to hoist the Indian flag in the J&K summer capital on Republic Day. Imposing restrictions on assembly under the criminal code, the state government asked BJP leaders to return to Delhi.


The drama at Jammu airport was still unfolding late on Monday]24-1-2011] evening with BJP leaders turning down requests by the state administration and Union home minister P Chidambaram to leave the city. The administration appears wary of arresting the Opposition leaders as this could give BJP political mileage but is not allowing entry either.


A BJP youth wing leader claimed that around 200 BJP activists had reached Srinagar to attempt to hoist the flag at Lal Chowk’s clock tower on January 26th. BJP leaders rejected Chidambaram’s suggestion that they had made their point and should leave. The only point made, they told the home minister, was that the state government was preventing entry into Jammu itself.


Sushma Swaraj and Jaitley, leaders of Opposition in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, and Kumar first sat on the tarmac of Jammu airport after the authorities ordered them back to Delhi saying the party’s march to Srinagar to hoist the national flag on the Republic Day and rallies elsewhere wouldn’t be allowed.


In our opinion Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India. So hoisting national flag anywhere in India could be performed by any citizen of the nation. Why this confusion? Whichever government, in any of the states, should provide protection to Indian national flag and those hoisting it in any public place. Why Omar Abdullah is afraid of it?


If flag hoisting on 26th in Srinagar is denied that will be the saddest day of our country as it will be the beginning of India breaking into parts as all fundamentalists, extremists will learn to challenge our sovereignty. Hence let us not make it happen and keep our mother India as one.


Omar Abdullah should remember that the Lal Chowk is within Indian Territory and he should in fact deal firmly with those opposing it. Our Independence was brought up on the bloodshed of lakhs of Indians. Every Indians are having the legitimate right to hoist the National flag on the Republic day on any places he like in India. AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalithaa on Wednesday [19-1-2011] said actor Karthik’s Indiya Nadalum Makkal Katchi would be part of the AIADMK alliance in the forthcoming assembly polls. She told mediapersons that talks were progressing with other parties who were likely to join her front and added that it would be revealed as and when deals were struck.


Asked whether the AIADMK had shut the doors to the Congress as she had been criticising the central government, especially on the 2G spectrum scam of late, she sought to clarify that the AIADMK had criticised the central government whenever it had acted against the interests of the public. “It has nothing to do with electoral alliances,” she maintained.


Listing out problems like deteriorating law and order, illegal sand mining and power crisis, she said there were several issues concerning the electorate. She said the AIADMK, Left and TDP would launch a nation-wide agitation against increase in price of petrol.


Jayalalitha also flayed Union minister Kapil Sibal’s criticism of the CAG report. “It is against the Constitution. It is also contempt of court and the CBI inquiry is conducted based on the CAG.
